Optical linewidth of a passively mode-locked semiconductor laser.
We measured the optical linewidths of a passively mode-locked quantum dot laser and show that, in agreement with theoretical predictions, the modal linewidth exhibits a parabolic dependence with the mode optical frequency. The minimum linewidth follows a Schawlow-Townes behavior with a rebroadening at high power. In addition, the slope of the parabola is proportional to the RF linewidth of the ...
متن کاملTheory of passively mode-locked photonic crystal semiconductor lasers.
We report the first theoretical investigation of passive mode-locking in photonic crystal mode-locked lasers. Related work has investigated coupled-resonator-optical-waveguide structures in the regime of active mode-locking [Opt. Express 13, 4539-4553 (2005)]. An extensive numerical investigation of the influence of key parameters of the active sections and the photonic crystal cavity on the la...
متن کاملAnalysis of Temporal Pulse Development in Passively Mode-Locked Lasers
Pulse-shortening and pulse broadening effects in passively mode-locked lasers are analysed. A steady-state pulse duration limit is calculated and compared with round-trip simulations. The numerical calculations apply to a picosecond N d : glass laser. Methods of short-pulse generation are discussed. PACS: 42.55R, 42.60D, 42.65 In passively mode-locked pulsed lasers the statistical spontaneous e...
متن کاملModelling colliding-pulse mode-locked semiconductor lasers
A discussion of three topics in the eld of non linear optics is presented We begin with the Colliding Pulse Mode locked CPM Quantum Well QW laser A large signal model consisting of a wave propagation equation for the electrical eld and a rate equation model for the material response is derived The wave propagation equation of the electrical eld is derived from Maxwell s equations in the slowly ...
متن کاملPulse Characteristics of Passively Mode- Locked Quantum Dot Lasers (postprint)
Interest in quantum dot mode-locked lasers (QD MLLs) has grown in recent years since their first demonstration in 2001 as applications for optical time domain multiplexing, arbitrary waveform generation, and optical clocking are anticipated. Ultrafast pulses below 1 ps have been reported from QD MLLs using intensity autocorrelation techniques, but so far detailed characterization examining the ...
